This morning I started with my experimental painting working from a selected area of one of my photos. I want to create a abstraction style painting, focusing on the texture rather than creating a ‘image’. My first step is to create the base layer of paint, I have opted to mix the colours on the canvas rather than on the palette because I prefer the effect it creates. I have a found a description of abstraction which I feel sums up how I want to work perfectly - ‘Abstraction is about creating the essence of a subject rather than the detail, but still retaining an echo of what ever it is that prompted the idea (unlike pure abstract). You can reduce the subject to the dominant colours shapes or patterns. Think reduced reality the detail you need to paint the character of the scene.’
